Submission Spotlight: Dominican Republic
Inventing has no borders. No matter who you are or where you're from, we have inventions to suit anyone! This is thanks to the 69 countries who have uploaded thousands of ideas to our site from all over the globe.
Located a long way away from us here in the UK, are a group of islands called the Caribbean. One of these islands is the Dominican Republic. The second largest island in the Caribbean behind Cuba and ahead of Jamaica, the Dominican Republic is not only home to Merengue but also to brilliant young inventors - and we have proof!
It’s time to shine a light on this beautiful, sunny country's talent for inventing and showcase some of our favorite invention ideas uploaded from there so far...
La Blusa Multiusos - Laura, age 11
The unpredictability of the weather is something we know all about in the UK, a little too well! Maybe this is why this particular idea made it into our showcase. Laura has all possibilities covered with this invention idea. Come rain or shine, we’re in very good hands.
“It is a multipurpose blouse, if there is a lot of sun press the red button and an umbrella comes out and the same when it rains, and if you are very hot a spray with water”
El Gran Domo - Johann, age 11
We’re always excited to see inventions which aim to protect our planet. This dome not only protects endangered animals but it turns shells and animal droppings into compost, making it an extremely healthy, safe and vibrant habitat.
“A dome that protects a specific area and protects endangered animals also has robots that collect garbage and shells and animal poop to turn it into fertile compost. Nothing from outside can enter unless authorized”
Avión de Semillas - Diego, age 8
This next idea was so good that we brought it to life! Trees and plants help to improve soils and prevent flooding and erosion. Thousands of wildlife species depend on trees and plants for food and shelter. So how can we grow more, faster?
Diego came up with a solution: Avión de Semillas. It translates to 'Seed Plane'. Diego uploaded this idea as part of the Climate Champions challenge.
"It is a plane that plants seeds. It runs on solar fuel. Throws seeds and throws water”
Avión de Semillas was brought to life by graphic designer Giulia!
There we have it, 3 of our favorites uploaded from the Dominican Republic. We’re so impressed with their creative and conscientious take on inventing. From our own everyday problems of deciding what weather appropriate clothing to wear to the global problem of climate change. These ideas highlight the variety of inventions we receive.
Now it's time to belt up and sit back. Where will our invention journey take us next?
