Just like our Powering the Future challenge, which saw workshops galore take place across South Tyneside classrooms and libraries, Making Waves is equally set to cause a splash!
We will present a series of workshops in participating schools. The sessions will consist of delivering lots of information about how important oceans are to our planet and the impact that climate change has on ocean life.
This will develop the children's knowledge which will help them think up ways to combat problems and get creative with elements of the ocean.
Key Stage 1 - 3 pupils will take on an invention challenge created for their age group, focusing on the role of the ocean and all life within it.
As the children get creative and innovate in their ideas, they will learn how their contributions can develop technology and improve the environment in years to come.
Following the workshops, the children will finalise their idea and put it forward to be judged by an expert panel.
Three ideas, one from each key stage, will be chosen to be brought to life by a team of makers - many of them hailing from the North East themselves!
The challenge is in partnership with Dogger Bank Wind Farm and South Tyneside Council.
