Our planet's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were agreed by all United Nations Member States in 2015 to help achieve peace and prosperity for us and our planet, now and into the future.
They say we must end poverty and other deprivations, improve health and education, reduce inequality – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
No 11, chosen for this challenge, is sustainable cities and communities.
Sustainability is the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
There are a few key reasons why we need to create sustainable cities and communities, such as those effecting living conditions, access to public transport, availability of public spaces, the effects of pollution and waste and coping with natural disasters.
When we make our cities sustainable, we create better lives and a healthier environment. Together, we can build urban spaces that are not just places to live but communities that thrive.
For this challenge, can you invent something to help make our cities and communities more sustainable?
